Margo’s: Pizza perfection

Like all good things, we discovered Margo’s quite by accident, a couple of years ago. We had planned on going to another restaurant but it was closed. So we walked around for a while. And then we found Margo’s. We haven’t looked back. We think that they make the best pizzas on the island. The ingredients are simple: a thin sourdough crust, fresh produce and … passion. Margo’s pizzas exude passion. A passion for creating the perfect pizza.

My personal favourite is the Cruda but I’ve heard that the Margherita, the New Yorker and the Maltese are pretty awesome too. It’s all a matter of taste, of course.

And if you’re craving a sweet something, Margo’s home-made ice-creams will be the perfect ending to your meal. Needless to say, I always have to have a scoop or two of chocolate-flavoured icecream for the road.

As for who Margo is, I’m not sure anybody knows.

Badass Burgers – Probably the Best Burgers in Malta

I had been hearing rave reviews about Badass Cafe and their  burgers for almost a year. My burger expectations are always high and, more often than not, I have been disappointed with over-cooked meat that tastes like cardboard that many local restaurants tend to serve up. But this time, I was not let down. The burgers were moist, juicy and tasted just right. The accompanying fries were crispy and very tasty. Unfortunately, I was too busy eating my Aunt Elsie burger to remember to take any photos. This burger came with a Greek twist with a topping of tomatoes, black olives and feta cheese. Another plus is that the staff is friendly and efficient.  I can safely say that I have finally found my favourite burger restaurant on the island. I think that I am going to get addicted.

Omerta’ – A Secret Revealed

Omerta’ is defined by The Free Dictionary as a rule or code that prohibits speaking or divulging information about certain activities, especially the activities of a criminal organization. The word omerta’ has become synonymous with the Mafia and all its activities.

It also happens to be the name of a small restaurant which my husband and I discovered this past weekend. If quaint and cosy is the dining experience that you are after, then this small restaurant will surely not disappoint. Nor will the food. The fresh ravioli stuffed with prawns and lobster and served with a simple herb sauce that I had as a starter was divine – as was the rest of the food.

 

The atmosphere was quiet and intimate  – perfect for a romantic evening. The fact that the restaurant is housed in a converted 500 year old building was an added bonus which contributed to a wonderful evening. And when our meal was over, we strolled around and explored the oft-forgotten charms of our capital city. But more about that in a future post.
